Culkin arraigned on drugs charges

2004/10/14 - RTE

Actor Macaulay Culkin pleaded not guilty to charges of illegally possessing marijuana and prescription medicine at an Oklahoma City court on Wednesday.

The former child star, now 24, left court after his brief appearance to enter pleas on the two misdemeanour charges.

Culkin, who lives in New York City, was arrested on 17 September while travelling with a friend in a hire car in Oklahoma City.

Police stopped the car, in which Culkin was a passenger, and officers found over a half-ounce of marijuana and anti-anxiety medication Xanax.

At the time of his arrest, Culkin was taken to Oklahoma County Jail before being released on $4,000 bail.

If he is found guilty, Oklahoma prosecutors have indicated that they will seek drug treatment as part of a plea agreement that will not include prison time.

An appearance in the case has been set for 2 December. Culkin, who became an international star in ’Home Alone’, is soon to appear on Irish screens in ’Saved’.
