Hemp Hound Biscuits

Tasmania. Ian Rochfort is granted the first liscense allowing the use of cannibis seed in a food product, which he will use to develop and export Hemp Hound Hors d’oeuvers, dog biscuits containing contain hemp seed extracts, which is known to be rich in healthy amino acids.

The liscensing stipulates the biscuits will undergo strict testing to ensure they contain no more than 50mg (=0.005%) per kilogram of THC, and the product must carry a label reading, "not for human consumption."

The Tasmanian Health Minister issued the liscense after the state’s chief pharmacist confirmed the product did not pose any threat to public health. Rochfort says the high concentration of fatty acids found in hemp have a wide range of health benefits in dogs: Promoting the repair of damaged cells, shiny coat, stronger teeth and nails.

He eventuallly hopes to obtain a liscense allowing him to produce human health foods made with cannabis sativa seeds, which he claims would help lessen the impact of heart disease in humans. Rochfort discovered the properties of the seeds while looking for a suitable suppliment for geese on his farm. The cannabis-fed geese found favor with international markets. Hemp Hound Hors d’oeuvres are sold in 7 ounce packs for $9.95 through vets, pet shops, and internet sites.
